Key Beliefs between Christianity and Hinduism

Introduction

In this essay, I will be conveying the aspects of God in both Christianity and Hinduism and how followers of these two major religions express their beliefs.

Christianity is the world's largest well-known religion that is believed in our society today, with approximately 2.4 billion followers, known as Christians. In Christianity, there is one god and he is seen as the creator, being omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent and when in times of worship, viewed as God the Savior. The readings from the Holy Bible are God's teachings and how human beings should live their lives to be considered as faithful and honourable to God, which are reported from men who are called Disciples, who are the followers of God and his son, Jesus Christ. A reading from the bible reinforces a reading that is spoken from Isaiah from God, “You are my witnesses,” declares the LORD, “And my servant whom I have chosen, in order that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me, there was no God formed and there will be none after me.” - Isaiah 43:10.

Hinduism is the third largest well-known religion in society today, with approximately 1 billion followers, known as ‘Hindus’ and spreading across parts of India and South Asia. Hindu's believe in one divine being named Brahman along with other various deities, making Hinduism a monotheistic religion and a triumvirate, consisting of three gods who are responsible for the creation, upkeep and destruction of the world. These Gods names are Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Brahman is believed to be the creator of the universe and everything that lives in it. Vishnu is known as the preserver and Shiva, the destroyer. Hindus must have respect for all creation as it is preached that God is in everything, meaning that they are vegetarians and must have respect for all living creatures. “That Brahman is in front and in back, in north, south, east, and west. Also overhead and below.” - Mundaka Upanishad 2.1. The Hindu equivalent of a bible is called ‘Shruti’, containing Vedas, which are four subchapters where the oldest written works in Hinduism can be discovered, emerging approximately 2,500 years ago. Hymns, mantras, and prayers are also included to guide practitioners printed in the Vedas.

God as the Saviour

Christians believe that a command from God was enough to set all of the creation in place, and through this creation, God reveals himself. It is also preached that God makes humankind in his own image and that Christians should acknowledge the importance of rest and reflection, by worshipping
