Brain Behavior on Drugs in Teenagers

Your brain controls everything you do. It controls what you think and feel, how you learn and remember what you learned and the way you talk and walk. These are things you know you brain does but what you may not know is that your brain also control you heart beating, the digestion of your food, and even the amount of stress you may feel. Imagine what your brain would be like with the abuse of prescription or illegal drug use.

At an alarming rate more and more teenagers are turning to prescription drugs they find in their parents medicine cabinets or going to the drug store to purchase over the counter drugs because they are too young to but alcohol. Most think that the prescription drugs prescribe for their parents can’t hurt them cause they see their parents taking it, however, these drugs are prescribed by a doctor who has examine their parents and know what strength to prescribe the prescription in. If a teenager takes the drugs that were meant for someone else they risk mixing the drug with something that can give them a toxic effect or even be allergic to that medication. Some teens are going as far as to mixing the drugs with other drugs to get that ultimate high and end up in the emergency room or worse death.

Marijuana, cannabis, or ganja is a psychoactive drug. Psychoactive means affecting the mind, metal, and behavioral process. They alter the brain function which will result in a temporary alter in perception, consciousness, mood and behavior. Not only are their thinking abilities worse, their brain activation to cognitive tasks is abnormal ( ScienceDaily, 14 Oct. 2008).Whether you are taking a stimulant or a depressant they will eventually become habit forming. Some have stated that smoking cigarettes leads to the use of marijuana.

Medicinal marijuana is used for many different medical conditions. AIDS and anorexia patients use it for boosting their appetites. Cancer patients use marijuana for pain relief, to help stop vomiting and nausea because marijuana is an anti-emetic, and helps the patient sleep by relaxing the muscles and calming their minds. High blood pressure patients it is said that marijuana opens up the blood vessels which will lower the patient’s blood pressure.
