Body Language

There is a hidden medium of communication only a few of us are aware of but all of us is affected by it. For the lay it is called body language, it is said that 83% of all communication in humans is done through body language. In ancient times, people did not have words back then, only expressions done by the body. This made humans completely aware of other people’s body in trying to decipher the message being tried to convey to them. This skill flourished because as per to natural selection, this improved the survival rate of people thus those who did not adapt this ability went extinct according to the laws of Darwinism. Survival of the fittest entails humans to be efficient in all aspects, thus the opposite sex is attracted to someone who shows all the quality essential for the human race which is primarily good genes. This field of study has shown ground breaking results in how pervasive body language actually is in our daily lives that some scientists have started devoting their time in this study which is called kinesics. The aim of this essay is to inform the reader of how body languages affect our ability to attract the opposite sex and what we can do to use body language in our advantage in social settings.

According to the book Red Queen, humans revolve around the idea of procreating as much as possible, this idea is pretty evident due to the fact that there are strong gender stereotypes. These stereotypes show what each gender should be doing in order for that person to be able to pass their genes as much as possible. For males, they are designed to spread their genes as much as possible by impregnating women they see fit to carry their genes. Women on the other hand would prefer the men they see as being the alpha of the group. An alpha is a male that dominates the certain tribe, or for our time, the person who dominates the social clique in a certain area. The problem in this era is that women meet too many people to the point that they have no time to get to know another person extensively which would make them have problems in knowing if a male is a superior one or an inferior one to their counterparts. This is the reason why women have much more attuned skills in reading body languages of other people, this helps their social skills in order for them to get to know a person on how consistent he is in the words he is saying. The reason why females have much more developed ability to read body language started again from ancient times when females needed to know the reason why their babies are acting in a certain way. They needed a way to read their babies expression which gives them a skill to master in order for their offspring to survive.
