Why I chose to study public relations at Curtin ?

Everybody in this world have their own taste, preference and ambition, so do I. I grew up in a family that is known for engineering careers. For example, my late grandpa was an engineer for SHELL, a well-known oil company, my cousin, she works for SHELL for 10 years now in corrosion engineering, my uncle is an IR (Ingénieur) in Mechanical engineering and my brother is a graduate in Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honours) in Curtin University. Basically, most of my families are engineers. Because of these facts, it somehow challenge me to be different among them all and for that reason, I took the decision of taking Public Relations (PR) as one of my major. I chose PR because in my opinion, PR affects almost everyone who has contact with other human beings and for that, it gives the power on changing their perspective towards a situation as. It teaches me to be more mature, think bigger picture and be more aware of what is going on with other parts of the world. Another reason being in PR area is because PR is important in any business and organization. For an organization, every phone call, every letter, every face-to-face encounter is a public relations event. PR profession allows you to be in many different careers such as event planner, publicist, sports agent and up to being a wedding planner and in to music business. As a conclusion, Public Relations is a brilliant field to go into because the skills within the field such as writing, speaking, research and establishing relationships are important to any job so you will graduate prepared with real-world situations that cover from nonprofit organizations to PR firms to high-powered businesses. By the way, if you like a fast-paced life, exciting environment where every day will be a challenge, then you should study public relations.
