MBA INTERVIEW QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Tell me about yourself

My name is Joshua Musisi. I was born and raised in a small town in the East African nation of Uganda called Jinja. I was an insurance claims manager at the Insurance Institute of Uganda and currently I do volunteering work at the University of Minnesota Health. I have a total of five years of work experience in insurance and supply chain industries and I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Rasmussen College in Eagan, MN.

I started my career as a supplies and operations management assistant at Uganda Revenue Authority where I examined existing procedures or opportunities for streamlining activities to meet product distribution needs and directed the movement, storage, and processing of inventory.  I got first insights into supplies management and learned production, purchasing, warehousing and distribution. I discovered my interest for production of products in this case being sugar cane. In order to follow my Interest / expand my knowledge / evolve further, I started putting together my business plan for sugar cane juice production.

I have worked in my current position for three years and feel that I have come to an edge of what is possible with a formal business education and I'm looking to complement my business management profile with the necessary business knowledge in order to pursue a career in business ownership.

Why do you want to earn a graduate business degree?

I have decided to pursue an MBA because it will help me develop a capacity for analysis, assessment, judgment, and action that I can exercise throughout my business career. My long-term professional goal is to have a successful natural sugar cane juice company.

Why are you interested in this school/program?

I chose UNOH MBA program because I've always wanted to gain knowledge instead of mere earning a degree. UNOH has got several years reputation in the field of academics and a long list of experienced and talented faculty. This was the main reason for my interest in this school. Also, I have been in touch with a number of alumni of UNOH for their guidance regarding my preparations. I could pursue this program anywhere, but I'd rather study at a university whose products I trust.

Why should we admit you?

Talk about your accomplishments as a leader.

During the last three years I have devoted a significant amount of time and energy to the betterment of young entrepreneurs, who in Uganda are mistreated, stripped of opportunities, and looked down upon. In my quest to start my own business, I faced many obstacles that I later found to plague all entrepreneurs in my country. Established family heads discourage their younger members from starting separate businesses; they would rather their younger members join them in the so called "safe business." Moreover, companies and government organizations will not award contracts to young people since older people earn respect for their age rather than their ideas in this traditional sub-continental culture. With an uncooperative family and no sources of funding, young entrepreneurs face little chance of success.
