The purpose of this assignment is to find out which performance appraisal system best fits the North East Regional Board of Dental Examiners, Inc (NERB). Cascio (2010), talks about the different performance appraisal systems that will fit any organization today when it comes to employee reviews. According to Casico (2010), there are other different performance appraisal methods. The graphic rating system has been the best fit for NERB. But there are other’s performance appraisal systems out there. System like behavior-oriented rating, and results oriented rating method.

The graphic rating scales system is the one that my company uses for employee’s performance review. The graphic rating scale system is the most common system that most companies are using today. Managers that use this type of system because it is less time consuming to develop. On this scale it ranges from outstanding to unsatisfactory. This scale typically range point is from one to five. One of the advantages for using the graphic rating scales system is to develop a new way to give feedback to employee’s Using this system can help managers to measure which goals have been accomplished. Having these goals for each employee’s can provide tracking information about their performance. It can provide feedback for individual development and it is easy to use.

NERB appraisal system is divided in to six parts. Part one reviews the employee’s job responsibilities. This part has a rating scale that starts with 1 and go are to five. Five means outstanding and 1 means unsatisfactory. It listed the employee’s principal responsibilities up to five and rates the employee’s performance for each. Part two rate the employee job knowledge, quality of work, cooperation, initiative, dependability/reliability, and attendance/punctuality. Part three is the employee’s strengths and weaknesses. Part four is the employee’s goals for next performance review period and part five is the employee’s and supervisor comments

The graphic rating scales system does match the system that this company is now using. According to (Cascio) 20120, “the graphic rating scales require an evaluator to indicate on a scale the degree to which an employee demonstrates a particular trait, behavior, or performance result” (pg. 343). This rating scale is a formal approach that includes documentation and a structured formal. This rating system is the best one when you are looking for accuracy. The clear lines established by this approach make documentation an easier task. This system is all able focusing on a combination of traits, behavior, results, and organizational goals.

This type of system is able motivating employees for future development and helping them to identify gaps in their skills. The most important thing about this system is that it provides feedback on the evaluated period and it gives you a plan to improve your skills. The appraisal
