Characteristics of Internet Crimes

The world-wide growth rate of the internet has enhanced cultural and commercial infrastructures and has assisted countries to link and connection their seclusion (Warsama Ghalib, 2011). But this vast connection has enabled the extent of crime and has directed to what is called the Globalization of Crime. People that are acquainted with the internet can simply understand what it can provide for criminal activity. This also makes the public, economic and national security for several for several countries susceptible to new kinds of borderless crimes (Warsama Ghalib, 2011).

Unlike regular crimes committed daily, internet differs from the rest of e-crimes. There are five significant properties of internet crimes. 1. The computer is a device for performing e-crimes. For every internet crime, the computer is the only device and no offense can be termed or described as an internet offense without operating a computer as the way to get on the internet and execute an offense (Warsama Ghalib, 2011). 2. The crimes are executed on the internet page. The internet unites probable victims of offenses on the internet that are pursued and attacked by internet crimes like banks, companies, etc. (Warsama Ghalib, 2011). Those targeted companies put up electronic security systems to guard themselves from cybercrimes or to regulate the loss if they fall victim to network attacks.

3. A cybercriminal is extremely accomplished and knowledgeable in computers (Warsama Ghalib, 2011). To execute an offense on the internet, the offender has to have extensive understanding and experience to be able to execute the offense and hide evidence to make it harder to detect. 4. The offense is cyber and borderless. The internet does away physical boundaries for countries. People can communicate with other countries in real time (Warsama Ghalib, 2011). Any cybercrime executed through the internet cannot be tracked to the scene and does not identify international boundaries. As a product, the influence intrudes on all countries' arrival entrances without needing a visa or confirmed by border patrol. 5. The main purpose of internet offenses includes attaining electronic data that is kept on computers and transferred over the internet (Warsama Ghalib, 2011). They target large sums of money, people or companies and ultimately target those computers of the victims.

Characteristics of Cybercrime

Like regular crimes, cybercrimes can have many forms and happen at any time (Symantec Corporation, 2012). Offenders that commit cybercrimes use several methods depending on their goals and skills.
