Chief Executive Role of Hospital Organization

Role/Functions/Responsibilities

A chief executive officer has the role of being the leader of the company. Responsibility may vary on a day to day basis. Duties may include: developing which direction the organization should take so that it will continue the company's success rate, (wisegeek, 2013). Another duty is creating a committee of other department members that will be responsible for implementing this plan. They will let the other employees know what is expected of them by making them understand the statement, (wisegeek, 2013). Other responsibilities include dealing with the operations, staffing of the organization, and solving issues within the organization.

Core Competencies (skills required;education)

The Chief Executive role of a hospital organization requires specific skills as well as comprehensive education, training, and experience. Research states that an understanding of and appreciation for the culture and environment associated with managing a complex service organization in a competitive, turbulent market atmosphere are two of the most vital skills a Chief Executive can possess (Job Description CEO1- Association for Community Health, 2006). The Chief Executive of a hospital organization must also have the skills necessary to develop and work with board members, interact, relate to, work with, and support physicians and medical staff, and have the experience needed to establish and develop proactive relationships with existing and emerging health care financial entities like PPO's and HMO's. Delegating responsibility effectively to senior subordinates is also a necessary skill the Chief Executive must have, which will allow those subordinates the opportunity to identify ways to accomplish specific objectives and goals.
