Venture Smith had remembered about his childhood, who were his parents and how he had been captured. He had remembered that his father was a prince and he was practicing polygamy which was prevalent among African nations. He had the memory of his father’s wives and his mother was the youngest wife. He had remembered in the day of his capture there was this rumor that “ some white nation “ has invaded their land, for his father decided to retreat rather than fighting with an unknown enemy. This is what he remembered.(Based on American Perspective Volume 1)

They left the village in the beginning of the night and camped in the shrub planes to conceal themselves from the enemy. The enemy had camped some distance away. They found Venture and his family because of smoked resulted by turning off the cocking fire. The prince started to defend and the rest started to run. The whites took the king in their custody and soon caught up with Venture and the others. They put ropes around the necks of the prisoners and took them where they were torturing the king to find his money, but they were not successful.

Venture’s memory is reliable because in the time he was a kid .Any horrible event is going to be hacked in to the memory in the childhood. Also this was his last memory of his family so had to keep it in mind. This is how he could remember his father (The King).

Venture did not like being a slave because he had to do a lot of hard work. However he would anything to keep his master pleased, he even turned down an escape attempt and returned to his master. After his mistress punished Venture’s wife and the master hit venture with a club, He went to the justice house in the neighborhood and claimed he is being treated harshly. The Justice talked to the master but it resulted in selling Venture to a new master. The new master was kinder. But he did not like slavery more than before.
