Studies depict that people accept ideas that are enshrined in stories as opposed to other analytical models of presenting knowledge. The narratives become fascinating by appropriate incorporation of text structure in both the plot and the setting. The story structure enables the readers, viewers, or listeners to comprehend the themes that a specific story postulates. The characters within a narrative fulfill specific roles and could either be major, protagonist, dynamic, round or even minor depending on their functions and behavioral characteristics. The narratives become more appealing when the author intentionally prefers to use mysterious settings that are unknown to the audiences. Exotic locations incorporated into story writing increases the curiosity of the readers by enhancing their exploration and imaginative capacities. The physical acting of the story makes the themes appear more vivid and precise in the minds of viewers as compared to reading. This paper aims to discuss the guidelines on how to write a good ‘fish out of water story.'

Why the fish out of water story is interesting

The fish out of water story concerns a boy who buys a fish from a pet store. Mr. Carp sells the fish to the boy and gives strict instructions on how to care for the fish including the feeding instructions. However, the boy declines to follow the rules and opts to over feed the fish due to the compassion he possesses for the pet. Eventually, the fish overgrows his bowl thus triggering the boy to relocate the pet into a multiple of vases and later to the bathtub leading to the flooding of the house (Behrooz et al., 2015). The boy requests for assistance from the police on how to relocate the fish into the swimming pool. The fish continues to exhibit abnormal growth in the pool, and all the swimmers are scared off. Helplessly, the boy requests for advice from Mr. Carp, who was the initial seller of the pet. Carp dives into the pool and pulls the under of the fish back to the standard size. The boy is warned never to feed the fish excessively and takes the precautions to heart.

The story is interesting because it presents to the readers the oval consequences that result to the disobedient on the character. The story is interesting due to its power of grabbing the attention of the audiences (Behrooz et al., 2015). The anxiety in the minds of the readers creates an inner drive to explore further and discover what eventually happens. The ‘fish out of water story’ is characterized by instances of antagonism because the boy refuses to follow the instructions on how to nature the pet. The audiences are eager to know the repercussions of the boy’s ultimate rebellion of the boy thereby probing the urge of the audience to know the climax of the situation.
