The Negative Effects of Energy Beverages

Monster, 5-hour, Red Bull, which are usually seen in the market, are energy beverages that people are willing to consume. Energy beverages contain ingredients which are harmful to a human’s body if consumed too often, such as caffeine, guarana, and excess sugar. Studies have proved that energy beverages are capable of enhancing performance before exercising because of the taurine. Some consumers choose to drink these beverages when staying awake is required. However, people who drink energy beverages like they are water really exist, especially teenagers. Energy beverages may have functions which are needed; meanwhile, those beverages also bring about problems. People who usually consume energy beverages are supposed to quit because they bring negative effects to people, such as insomnia, damage of organs, and anxiety.

Insomnia is a common symptom which almost attacks everybody. Insomnia sometimes occurs when a man has consumed energy beverages. Caffeine is a stimulant widely consumed in the current world, and it is also a kind of psychoactive drug. When people consume too much caffeine, sleeping on time becomes difficult. Without enough sleep, concentrating on studying or working will be impossible in the following morning. Then people choose to drink energy beverages again, and vicious cycle forms.

Besides insomnia, energy beverages also do harm to organs. For example, caffeine contained in energy beverages will increase gastric acid, which is able to cause stomach disease. Energy beverages bring about effects to other organs, especially heart. An obvious manifestation is that a man’s heart beats faster after drinking energy beverages. Absorbed by human’s body, the ingredients contained in energy beverages will disturb the heart rhythm. Moderate caffeine absorbed is helpful to human. However, mixed with other substances, the caffeine contained in energy beverages is capable of increasing the blood pressure which is also called hypertension. Hypertension is a common disease, but many people die every year due to it.
