Chapter 3

Research Methodology

        This chapter presents the research design and procedure used in the collection of samples, the construction of self – made research instrument which described the survey questionnaire, validation and administration and the statistical treatment of the data gathered which were used to answer the specific problems as stated in this research.

Research Method

        The fundamental objective of this research is to gather data, opinions and insights, interpret and analyze the information obtained from the respondents’ concept in terms of the effectiveness of Performance Management System in improving the operations.

        The method of collecting data is through a survey questionnaire. The purpose of the study is a descriptive research answering the questions, who, what, where, when or how much. The type of investigation is correlational as the researcher will identify the factors associated with the problem and the interference is Minimal as the normal activities will not be manipulated. In terms of the time dimension, the research design is cross-sectional because it is conducted at only one point in time. Furthermore, this study is statistical since conclusions will base on quantitative data, whilst the unit of analysis is Individual wherein, data will have to be collected from each individual employee and it will be analyzed individually. Finally, because the research environment is conducted in real life situations, then the research design is conducted in field settings.

Sampling Method & Selection of Respondent

        The study is about the effectiveness of Performance Management System as basis for improved operations in Accenture Inc. The population for this study is composed of employees that are currently working in Accenture Inc. The researcher will not include employees who are no longer working.  These are retired and resigned employees and some who are not willing to respond to questions, probably because of their current position and some sensitive question that may affect their job. The effectiveness of the Performance Management System will depend on the personal opinion of the employee on how they are directly affected to it.

Respondents of the Study

        The total population of employees at Accenture Inc. is more than 300. The survey questionnaire will be distributed via Accenture Sharepoint and employees will be notified thru email. The survey will be distributed to only 150 employees.

Research Instruments

        A self – made questionnaire is to be used as research instrument in this study to gather information from the respondents.

        The first part of the questionnaire contains the respondent’s profile which includes age, gender, civil status, job position, educational attainment, length of service and monthly income. The second of research instrument is the questionnaire proper, the respondents will be asked to rate each of the statements using a 5 point rating scale; namely 5 Very Satisfied, 4 Satisfied, 3 Neutral, 2 Dissatisfied, and 1 for strongly dissatisfied. The third part will focus on the customer satisfaction based on the recent transaction of the respondent with a customer using a 10 point scale rating; namely 10 Extremely Satisfied, 5 Neutral, 0 Very dissatisfied, 10 Extremely likely, and 0 Not at all likely. To gather the desired data, the researcher will randomly distribute the questionnaire to each of respondent employee level of Accenture Inc.
