Within the past few years, Netflix has become an extremely successful business. Effective uses of rhetoric have helped this company build their business through the use of internet ads, bill boards, and TV adds to attract customers. Advertising is used to sell a product or inform about an event or situation. It appeals to viewers through text, colors, and pictures. When Netflix advertises, the company is successful in multiple rhetoric strategies. Because many people like to ignore advertising, it is important to have an eye catching advertisement.

The most successful strategy Netflix uses is rhetoric text. When you see a Netflix TV add or billboard add, the first things to catch your eye are the free month trial and the cheap monthly price of eight dollars. When any advertisement offers something for free, it’s usually more appealing to the viewer. You have nothing to lose, it’s free! When you're making a purchase, the cheaper it is the beter. Therefore, when Netflix offers all the movies one can watch for only eight dollars a month, then that right there is enough to convince most viewers to buy into the product.

Another successful rhetoric strategy they use is eye catching color. When an advertisement uses an excessive amount of color, it can overwhelm and distract the eye, taking away from what the company is trying to advertise. Netflix uses a plain red background with black and white lettering. Black and white are two simple colors that contrast with red very well. It's easy to read and not distracting, yet bold. Netflix use large bold lettering to ensure the reader can see what they're trying to say. Netflix also surrounds the text in a large colorful bubble to give it the extra "pop."

Last of all, Netflix throws in a little imagery. Display cover shots of old and new movies are used in their TV and internet ads. Netflix advertisers constantly change the images to show the large selection
