I haven’t finally decided what I want to do but, business might be part of what I want to pursue. I would like to own my own business, then if the business was successful enough I’d like to sell it then run for office. I’m still deciding what position of office would best suit me, but the genres I’m discussing are mostly things you would find in that situation. A discourse community is made up of a group of individuals who share “a broadly agreed upon set of public goals; further it has mechanisms of intercommunication.”(Writing about writing pg 795) This field is very important because the person would be in a position to make decisions that would affect peoples’ lives.

Running for office involves convincing other people to support you by proving that you know what you’re doing and that you can help solve their problems. They pick you by voting for you. They are basically picking you to be a leader and make decisions for the community. You convince them to support you and follow your leadership with a variety of communications.

1-You demonstrate your experience by describing what work you’ve done, your education, your background and how you are someone they might support, in a document called a resume; the audience is the general public, the media, community leaders;

2-you write a brief, persuasive explanation about why you are running for office in a memo; the audience for this is people you want money from, people you want to endorse you or support you, maybe the media;

3-You produce position papers that explain issues or problems and lay out your solutions like how to address traffic or rising taxes; the audience is voters, the media, and interest groups;

4-You explain what it will cost to solve the problem and how you will pay for it in a Financial Impact Analysis; the audience is the voters, community leaders and the media;

5-A community alert is a call to action about a crisis, or a threat; the audience is voters and community groups who care about the issue in question;

6-Finally, the issues from the position papers, your experience and your call to action are boiled down to eye-catching or funny campaign advertising, that is used to persuade voters to vote for you; the audience is people who vote.
