Emotional Pain: An Illusion of the Human Psyche

Critique by: Mr. Marasigan

“Just another picture to burn”, I whisper to myself. I still remember the last time you told me that you won’t do the things that he did to me. I kept everything what you’ve said. I gave you a chance to be a part of my life. I let my feelings grew; unexpectedly, I fell too fast. I thought everything about us was real, but it was an illusion. Again, I fell in love with the wrong guy. Just another collection of pictures of memories; burnt. I think about you always and you even invade my dreams. Every time I see you happy, the pain that I’m wearing grows, bigger and bigger. But as time passed on, this injured heart you broke has healed. It may be difficult to handle pain at first, but as time goes by, the wound will heal. You should just accept the things that cause you pain, divert yourself with other things and allow time to heal.

Accepting the things that broke you will make you feel better. Sharing your thoughts with someone by trying to talk out your feelings and saying something about what hurts can bail you from pain. Even though it’s a bitter pill to swallow, it can help start your healing. Even though letting someone put his or her arm around you and hearing them say, "It's going to be okay" may not seem that helpful, it really is one of those “small things” that you need in times of despair, because it helps you feel you're not totally alone. Realizing that someone wants to be there for you will help you realize that you are important in someone’s life.

Diverting attention to other things will help you forget the memories of him that you always remember; maybe not all, but enough to let you move on. Making time to get involved in pursuits like learning a new skill and engaging yourself in physical activities can help you crash the memories that remind you of him. Try to focus yourself on something else and make a list of things you’ve always wanted to do. It will also help a lot if you try to imagine and retrieve the part where you are doing some goofy things before you met him. Indeed, do something that could occupy your mind with busy thoughts and let your schedule be fully occupied with blissfulness and accomplishment.
