General rules of APA Format citing for Books and Articles

Authors or editors: Last name, first initial. Second initial. (Ex. Smith, J. J.)

Multiple authors. Ex. Smith, J. J., & Dow, J. J.

Date of publication: (2001) Followed by a period.

Title of the book or article

Book title in italics: The facts of life in central Indiana: A case study.

Article title NOT in Italics: The dating habits of college students: A new understanding.

Publication Information

Book: City, State: Publication organization. (Ex. Muncie, IN: Hoosier Publishing.)

Article: Journal name IN italics, edition (IN italics), (number *only if individually numbered* NOT in italics), page numbers in this format. Journal of Hoosier Studies, 1(2), 54-66.

Note: If the journal is continuously paginated, the issue number is not required.

Complete Book example:

Smith, J. J., & Dow, J. J. (2001). The facts of life in central Indiana: A case study (3rd ed.). Muncie, IN: Hoosier Publishing.
