Why Public Speaking Is Important?

INTRODUCTION:

When we fear public speaking or are required to give a speech one may ask “Why public speaking is important ?” Believe it or not but public speaking is one of the most important skills a person should develop in a life.

One can assess its importance by knowing its role in career development, business growth and even in the relationships you have with your friends and family. Public speaking is a skill worth learning. Throughout history it has been public speaking that has united people and caused great change, both positive and negative. Public speaking is important, both in history and in your life.

There is a pessimism surrounding it too that is Stage Fright/ Anxiety/ Nervousness. Nervousness in public speaking is a form of social behavior. Students may underachieve at work or at school, managers may underachieve because of anxiety and often avoid speaking in classroom settings boardroom settings. They may drop a course or avoid tasks which requires a lot of oral presentations. When making performances many top performers of the world get stage fright, it may come and go or diminish, but it never kills anyone. Stage fright is a phenomenon that you must learn to control if you want to be good at public speaking. Basically, stage fright isn't the most accurate term for the nervousness that occurs when considering a speaking engagement.

In fact, most of the fear occurs before you step on-stage. Once you're up there, it usually goes away. Try to think of stage fright in a positive way. It motivates you to focus on the topic rather than on the public. One cannot overcome it, but can control by improving the followings:

•        Structure of Speech

•        Singular flow of thought

•        Clarity of the thought flow

•        Body Language

•        Facial expressions

It is important to conquer your nervousness about speaking in public, by to concentrate on your topic, not on being in front of an audience. One should remember the task of public speaking is efficiently conveying the message, but not defeating its purpose by focusing on being nervous.
