Chapter 1 Essay-

What is your career strategy for the next five years? To what extent does your strategy fit with your long-term goals, the characteristics of the external environment, and your own strengths and weaknesses?

I not only successfully achieved my goal of staying within the desired field but also focused on obtaining a position within an e-commerce organization.  Similar to what chapter one discussed we can no longer predict the possible future but must use current resources to create a strategic management direction. In the recent years there has been a huge decline in print (ex: newspapers and magazines) but a rise of sales and marketing through the Internet, I saw a shift in my strategy to stay within a true growing industry.

Currently I manage the South Florida division of Outside sales and marketing for Groupon. I was promoted to senior manager in less than a year and will be completing my second year within the organization in 2016. My career strategy for the next five years is to complete a solid two plus years but no more than three in my current organization and move more towards a upper management marketing position preferably within a company that also sees the value and opportunity of ecommerce. My ideal organization is HBO Latin America here in Coral Gables.  My strengths lie within my past and current goals; they continue to align because I am constantly self-analyzing and understanding the business environment, my objectives to assure I have necessary resources and capabilities to achieve them. To strategize my weaknesses I am allowing myself to stay within the organization and position so long, so I do not reach the moment in my career where I no longer feel challenged or “bored”.
