Was Silvio the right choice for General Manager of Schindler's Indian operations?

No, I don't think so. Tough Silvio has a lot of energy and have ability to force everyone focus on the direction he want. But he was wrong at the begging, He didn't notice the risk on what he is trying to do. Did't estimate the risk correctly. Finally, He have to face the worse situation when the political

environment change.

As Silvio, would you accept this assignment?

I will say yes. But it depend on the situation. First of all,I am very young. I am not married yet. And I don't have baby. So I don't have to consider a lot when I am trying to take something have high risk. But when it come to Silvio, I will probably say no. Cause he has children.

How would you characterize Silvio's management style?

Management style is friendly and easy going, more patient but not tough enough. Idealism. Hard work but sometimes it not work. From the issue that he's employee accept a custom made elevator we can find out that people don't quite follow he demand.

Should Silvio try to adapt his style to the Indian style & culture and values or should he try to change some of the Indian norms & behaviors to fit Schindler"s and his own management style?

I think he have to do both. Because, It's very difficult to change a culture. But what he can do is to add some value from parent company, for example professional manage system, education system and so on. But he can not change the culture that people own when he was born in this country. I will costly but not worth.

Silvio claims to recruit people on the basis of having "the right attitude & energy". Should you select primarily on knowledge, or attitude?
