Sears Canada Inc. (Sears) is a multi-channel retailer that is engaged in the sale of goods and services through 95 department stores, 43 Sears Home stores, 144 Hometown stores, 24 Outlet stores, 84 Sears Travel offices, 34 Corbeil appliance stores, the Sears.ca website and an extensive network of over 1,200 merchandise pick-up locations.

Through its retail channel, Sears operates its namesake department stores, as well as Sears Home, Hometown, Outlet, Corbeil Electrique, and Sears Travel stores. The Sears Home Services channel provides carpet and duct cleaning, custom windows coverings, product installation and assembly services for products purchased at Sears stores, and Sears Heating and Cooling. The direct channel is divided between Sears’ catalogue and website (e-commerce) businesses. The logistics channel operates six National Logistics Centres and the S.L.H. Transport subsidiary, which transports merchandise to stores and catalogue pick-up locations, as well as provide carrier services for Sears and customers unrelated to Sears.

The company's Real Estate Joint Arrangement segment includes the company's joint arrangement interests in shopping centers across Canada, all of which contain a Sears store.”

Sears serves the general population with its full-line department stores as well as its Sears Home and Sears Outlet stores. These stores are primarily located in suburban shopping centres. The company also serves smaller urban centres across Canada with its Sears Hometown stores.

Through its direct channels, Sears serves customers across Canada and especially in rural and remote communities with its catalogue and e-commerce website at Sears.ca. Orders for Sears catalogue can be picked up at a Sears store or at one of over 1,200 merchandise pick-up locations.

iii. Organization history, employees, locations, revenues, and profits

Sears Canada began in 1952 as Simpsons-Sears Limited, a joint venture between the Robert Simpson Company (Simpson’s) and Sears, Roebuck & Co. of the United States. The joint venture was established to take over the existing Simpson’s catalogue and to build stores in markets not served by existing Simpson’s stores.
