Specific purpose: To persuade my audience to reject the plastic surgery to enhance their self-image.

Central Idea: Plastic surgery is dangerous for their physical and psychological health, as well as the results never match their expectations.

Introduction

Since childhood, we have always been told what beauty is. The doll we play with, the magazine we read and the programs that we watch all teach us how a beautiful person looks like. The perception of beauty is so unrealistic and idealistic due to media and the reality shows such as “Extreme Makeover”, “Bridoplasty”. We perceive beauty as being super model. We follow this perception without understanding that, whatever is shown on TV or magazines are not real. There is a lot of effort involved behind those beautiful images and perfect pictures. These days we are so much involved in beauty as a form of advertisement that our individual beauty lost.

I have been criticized throughout my life, and people want me to have nose job done to look prettier, but when I researched about it, I reject to change my body. Not only me but my student survey showed that 9 out of 10 students been criticized about their physical features. We have been criticized based on the unrealistic and idealistic perception of beauty.

Today I would like to persuade my audience to reject plastic surgery to enhance their self-image, not only because it has a lot of physical and psychological health risk, but the results never match their expectations.

(Transition: we’ll start by looking at the risk involved in plastic surgery and why it is a problem)

Body

There were nearly 8.5 million cosmetic surgical and non-surgical procedure performed in 2001.An increase of 304% from 1997, according to the americal society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Because people are not satisfied with their look and they seek plastic surgery as a solution.

Not only the numbers are scary, but also the risk and danger involved with plastic surgery are frightening.

The post-surgery recovery process is very painful, and most of the patient doesn’t have idea about how worse it can go.

According to Dr. Nahai, president of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Numbness and loss of sensation in the nipple particular occur 10% to 70% of the time.

So, either TV has successfully sold these procedures as being risk-free, or, the psychology behind these voluntary decisions is so compelling that people are willing to risk a great deal in the pursuit of happiness and self-fulfillment.
