Organizational changes occur when an organization wants to transition their current state to a future state. Change is necessary in order to keep up with the competitive industry we live in. Changes are happening daily to enhance our lives. Companies must be mindful of the desires of their customers in order to maintain their competitive advantage.  What may be prevalent and current today could be altered tomorrow so it is imperative for organizations to adapt to these essential changes. Coca-Cola is one of the several companies that are currently undergoing change.

Type of Change

The world is changing every day with technological advances, which means there will come a point in time when an organization must adapt to keep up with the growing market. This article identifies that Coca-Cola is undergoing changes to, “further streamline its focus and expedite its refranchising to independent bottling partners” ("Coca-Cola Announces Major Organizational Changes", 2013). They have decided to split the company into two divisions, Coca-Cola North America and Coca-Cola Refreshments, which they believe is the next step in the evolution of the business ("Coca-Cola Announces Major Organizational Changes", 2013). The CEO of Coca-Cola states, “We organized the business to intensify focus on key markets, streamline reporting lines and provide flexibility to adjust the business within these geographies in the future," he continued. "Now, we are in a position to leverage this flexibility to return to a traditional company and bottling operating model in North America, which will enhance our focus on execution and accelerate the refranchising of our bottling system in our flagship market” ("Coca-Cola Announces Major Organizational Changes", 2013). They also have decided to change the leadership of the company to help with the new changes of the company by bringing in new people and getting rid of people who have been with the company for a long time and no longer have a benefit to the company.

Reason For The Change and Other Types Of Change

The reason for the change within the Coca-Cola Company is their desire for growth. They also have a desire to improve their processes within the organization nationwide with their bottling systems. They plan to refranchise with new leaders within the organization in order to meet their needs and short and long term goals. Other reasons for change could include changes in government regulations, innovations in technology and competitors who change their company. These are just a few examples of reasons a company may want or need to change.
