P&G Japan: The SK-II Globalization Project

In dealing with the SK-II product and whether or not to expand or not to expand, a few issues arose when discussing this topic. The first problem began with everyone being on board. Not everyone was with expanding into the US although the product had done so well in Japan. Japan had brought in $150,000,000 worth of sells on this product, but not everyone was sure if it would do the same in the USA. Just like most corporations, if the corporate governance is not on the same level, the idea is not bound to take off or go far. Another issue that was brought up is the fact the cultures are so different. Of course, most women love beauty products that will make them look beautiful. But were the new set of women willing to pay with the already customer was paying? Was the advertising going to be more difficult from the culture it was already being advertised in? The only way to really be certain is to take the chance and we don't know how that would go. When it came down to the final issue, the problem was with negotiations and proving that the product was worth actually being sold across the seas like some people wanted.

If P&G were to sit there and say that just because the product made money in one country, in theory, it would definitely make money in another. They would also have to look at the people of Japan and see what they thought of them. If some people thought that they were out there as an economic corporation or did they see them as a community corporation out to help everyone and this may be the reason their sells were so high? Will those people in America think the same, think differently or what? The theories that are out there, P and G will have to take a hard look at and decide if it fits them or not.
