INTRODUCTION AND OVERVIEW OF ABSENTEESM

Absenteeism is failure of employees to report for work when they are scheduled for work. Absenteeism is undesirable because of its cost and the operating problems that it causes. It is an organization malady affecting production, productivity, profits, investments and the absentee workers themselves. Its consequences are alarming, as a day lost is, a resource lost deprived of being invested.        

Adequate importance has not yet been given to the problem of absenteeism in Global in India, perhaps due to existence of abundant manpower. Attention to this problem has been rather cursory.                                                            

Absenteeism is a symptom of organizational unrest unlike other organizational problems such as strikes, gheraos and lockouts. Absenteeism is no spectacular, as a symptom of organizational unrest even though the total time lost through the employee absence could be as high as that lost through other forms of organizational problems. Absenteeism of any form can be considered as a form of withdrawal from work owing to sickness, injuries and other forms of unforeseen reasons. A certain amount of absence will always be unavoidable. Even though it is difficult to gauge the economic effects of absenteeism, absence that generally occurs could be avoided.

This unavoidable loss of working time and production is surely undesirable.

The problem of absenteeism is India is widespread. In many organizations, this problem is thought of as an unavoidable evil to live with and thus to be ignored. Some company management’s  tend to consider absenteeism in their organization as not as high even though the closer look may look contrary. In general, absenteeism as an organizational problem has received only a very little careful investigation and handling.

NEED AND IMPORTANCE OF THE STUDY

People are the most dynamic and essential resources in any organization. These organizations are composed of people working together to achieve a common need. People are required to work in company considerable attention has been focused on “Absenteeism and control measures.”

Absenteeism and working conditions has always been a major problem in organizational establishments and has drained the productive resources of the country at large. The experience and efficiency of the labor force is determined the success of the organized industry to a very great extent. High rates of absenteeism, unsatisfactory working conditions in the organization directly affect various positive aspects of the industry and may finally result in low productivity.

Hence an attempt is made to study the phenomena of absenteeism and its impact on organizational effectiveness at LGS global Ltd

LGS global Ltd is a BPO where in the productivity depends on a continuous IT and customer support given to the clients at the other end of the world. And the employees are to be more alert to he customer calls attendance to the workd is major determinant in the fasts paced competitive landscape of BPO world. Controlling absenteeism plays a major role in the success of the organizations.
