Introduction

The essay is to discuss and analysis the nature of culture for Hong Kong. The historical background and working environment for the city are described. Then to display the management style, the common characters, the working attitude and customs among most of the Hong Kong people etc… Finally the analysis and critical discussion are given by the writer’s point of view.

Multi-National and Traditional

Hong Kong is always said as a cosmopolitan city. It is true that this city combined the cultural of both eastern county from China and western from Britain caused by its historical background. The offices are modern and the structures of organizations are well established with up-today techniques. The communication network is fast and widely spread thought out the world. But the working culture and thinking of the people are still traditional in most part of the city.

In most of the local business organizations, the management style is in high hierarchy. The boss is the highest authorities and all the people should listen to him/her whatever true or not. “The boss always right” is always the indication for the working force. Many people still stick in old thinking that regard the boss as like as the king in the old days China. They seek career development is not depend on personal efforts to the works well done. They try great efforts in most part of gaining favorites from the boss and keeping good relations with the boss and the high ranking group. When facing the boss, the staffs seldom to explain advices and express their real feelings. They do their works mainly by follow the indication and instruction from the boss or supervisors.

Competition for relations and relationship

The above paragraph has simply mentioned the people to develop their career by seeking good relations with the boss not by personal efforts. The rival among the colleagues is to draw the boss attention and favors. If the boss is male, the competition between male staff is to gain friendship with the boss. For the female staff, the competition may be the relationship.

The legal marriage system in Hong Kong is one husband-one wife, same as most developed countries. Some Muslim countries can be one husband with four wives or more.
