Harrison Bergeron Literary Analysis

Jesus in his teachings said to treat others with respect and to treat them how u would like to be treated. Everyone wants to be treated right and respected but then they treat others with disrespect and still think that they should be treated right. Margot in “All Summer in a Day,” by Ray Bradbury, is the only student in her class who has seen the sun while the rest of them haven’t been able to see it until now. The last time the sun came out 7 years ago on one day for an hour and they are all 9 now, teasing her that she has never seen the sun before. She had come from Earth five years ago here to Venus. The characters from the story show the main idea of, to treat others how you would like to be treated.

Margot is treated terrible by the boy William making fun of her and not believing her that she has seen the sun before. William said, “What’re you looking?” Margot said nothing. “Speak when you’re spoken to.” He gave her a shove (pg. 250). He disrespects her by talking and responding to her in a nasty way and then shoves her when she didn’t even do anything to him. She did not move; rather she let herself be moved only by him and nothing else (pg. 251). When being shoved around she doesn’t react to it, just letting him push her around.

Margot is lost in her thoughts being depressed about not being able to see the sun, being made fun of and pushed around by the children especially William. Margot says “It’s like a fire, in the stove.” “You’re lying, you don’t remember!” Cried the children (pg. 251). The children don’t believe that she has seen the sun thinking that she is lying to them and that she doesn’t remember. “Get away!” the boy gave her another push. “What are you waiting for?” (pg. 251). William is torturing her; shoving her and making her feel terrible, making her feel that she is nothing but a liar who is making everything up about the sun.

They are jealous that she has seen the sun,
