Reflective Memo

Introduction        

Even though my major is data management, I came to this class worried about if I was going to have to write codes. Luckily, these worries have dissipated the first day of class after the professor announce that we will not be writing codes. In fact, each assignment in this class presented an opportunity for me to learn about what it takes to build …………. skills. Hence, the following memorandum highlights what I have learned in this class, how it has helped me become a better writer, discover my strengths and weaknesses, and areas in which where I need improvement.

Body

The TCM 32000 Writing class is a requirement for my degree, and due to my French speaker background. I came to this class with serious apprehensions, these apprehensions dissipated the first class meeting. In fact, during the first class meeting, the professor laid out the class objectives and made it seem doable for everyone eager to learn, this reassured me even though I was still anxious. Then, over the course of the semester, I learned how to plan and write an E-mail, a report in a technical industry and more importantly, how to pick out what is relevant to my intended audience and apply it effectively and professionally.

Throughout the semester, I completed all my assignments and the professor helped me overcome any obstacle by giving clear and precise instructions on how to approach my writing. Even though I was not required to use the planning and communication context tips, I used them anytime I felt that they were useful to make my communication clearer, and it worked all the time. The peer reviews section was of a significant help too. It offered the opportunity for classmates to give a feedback on my paper. That feedback helped me not only to better organize my thoughts, but to also focus my topic and my target audience.

The class exercise assignments helped me better prepare for my writing assignments, each exercise played an important role in helping me to measure and understand the scope of the upcoming writing assignment. This technique used by the instructor made it relatively easy to find the best approach possible to each paper I wrote. The writing assignments helped me discover how difficult it can be to invite someone to favorably respond to an e-mail requesting assistance for example if we ignore the proper way of communicating our request. In fact, this class has provided me with writing skills necessary to get the communication correct.
