  1. The three major driving forces for this transformation are the Industrial Internet, Advanced Manufacturing, and the Global Brain. The Industrial Internet is the integration of physical machinery with sensors and software. Sensors and software are becoming extremely advanced which in turn increases productivity. Advanced Manufacturing is the switch from machine manufacturing to 3D printing. This new way of manufacturing products increases productivity, efficiency, and decreases costs. Lastly, the Global Brain is the collective ideas and solutions that humans share integrated through communication networks. Humans will always be involved in the industrial process due to our creativity and interpersonal abilities.
  2. Data Science is a field about scientific methods, processes and systems to extract knowledge or insights from data in order to draw conclusions. Netflix uses data from personalization and movies you’ve watched to recommend other movies you might like.
  3. Item-based collaborative filtering is a form of filtering for recommender systems based on the similarity between items calculated using people’s ratings of those items. When you are buying something from amazon you can see down below what other people bought that are similar to that item. It recommends other items based off rating of certain items.
  4. Exploratory Analysis is an approach to analyzing data to summarize their main characteristics using mainly visual methods. Firstly, you define the data and end-goals of analysis. Secondly, you decompose the data to determine relationships and attributes. Third, you evaluate the data using simple methods such as averages and counts. Lastly, you decide on data quality, data scope, and “good hypotheses” to model.
  5.  For this question I immediately thought to use a sumif formula as shown below. I wanted to sum the number of units sold if the criteria were the number of a certain day. After this I simply put that number over the total number of units sold * 100 to find the percentage (also shown below).

7)

A) The state with the most hospitals is California. I removed duplicate states and used a countif formula while using the unedited states column as my criteria.[pic 9]

B) To find the mortality rates in each state I first found the number of deaths from each hospital and added them up to find deaths per state. Then I divided the total number of deaths by the total number of patients to find the mortality rates.
