We Only Want What's Best For You

As you read the story "Two Kinds" we see that the mother in the story can come off a little angry at Jing Mei for not being a prodigy when it's not even her fault. As the story progresses we see that the mom only wants what's best for her daughter even though it doesn't seem like it at the time for the daughter. The point this author is getting across is that our parents their best intention in mind and only want what's best for us and will try to do their best to make us who they think we need to be to be great.

As children grow up they see how our parents tend to nag at us to do the right thing. Every child has had a time in their life when even though there parents don't seem like it they still have our best interest in mind. In the story Jing Mei's mother always tries to get her to do her best so that she succeeds in life but Jing Mei takes it as just nagging. The author uses character, setting, and conflict to show that even though our parents seem angry at us they only want us to succeed.

The first time we see the mother trying to make her daughter good at something is when she wants to get her hair cut like Shirley Temple. The mother saw Shirley Temple and heard that she started out as a child star and so the mom thought that maybe her daughter's gift was in acting and singing. When the mom took her daughter to the salon to get her hair cut she wanted to make her look like Shirley Temple but in the end she just ended up looking like a guy. The mom was trying to force her to do something she didn't want to do but either way she was still looking out for Jing Mei's future and had only her best intentions in mind. After this she also put her daughter through a lot of other tests to see what she might be good at.

The mother then gave Jing a series of tests that she had gotten from a magazine. These
