If I were Susan Sharpio, I would continue to campaign to change the benzene drying process by contacting the upper management to stop the process and protect employees. Also, I would contact OSHA or the media to alert them about this violation if the senior management ignored the campaign.

Benefits: Certainly, the company benefited from not having to fix the problem as they saved money.  The senior executives in the company would benefit with bonuses and incentives, as they chose to ignore the budget request to fix the problem. Also, the stockholders and other employees who don’t work in the drying shed, as they got higher pay, and benefits. The plant manager might not have benefited bonuses but he chose to ignore the problem, to sustain his job and salary.

Harm: New Employees who worked in the drying shed, not only worked for low wages, but they were affected physically due to the high exposure to the benzine. Employee’s families felt unsafe to send them to work. Susan Sharpio would be harmed because of her campaign, and her job is at stake. I would say, plant manager was also slightly harmed because at least he tried every year to submit a capital budget request to fix the problem and it got rejected every time.

Rights: Senior Executives who chose to reject the budget request to fix the problem. The other employees and stockholders rights were exercised who chose to ignore the problem.

Wrong: The new employees worked in the drying shed; they had to work in the highly hazardous place for a low wages for a longer period of time. Susan sharpio wanted to bring up a solution for this problem and was ignored by many when she raised the question about the hazardous situation of the shed. Plant manager budget request to fix the problem was rejected every year.

Moral Problem: Is it “right” to make the new employees work in such a dangerous place which would harm their health? Is it right to reject the budget proposal to fix the problem just because there won’t be an adequate return on the investment? The employees’ lives are in danger. Is it right to go against the law to have an unsafe work environment?
