Domestic Violence

Michelle Bussolotti is a family and marriage counselor. She said “Domestic violence is America’s hidden war. And the battleground is in all our homes.” There always have innocents in every war. In family war, children must be victims. Domestic violence is a social problem that keeps plaguing all around the world. So how can we stop domestic violence?

I think the best way to stop domestic violence is that stop people’ mind which think violence is the most effective way to deal with problems. I think some schools need to set up some moral class to lead teenagers who are in adolescence. No matter teachers, parents, and the society, we all have a responsibility to let them know what the right and wrong thing is.

I created a character for my project, his name is Tommy McQueen. I always call him Tom. I drew a comic strip of Tom, a problematic teenager that eventually becomes his school’s president. Tom was born in a troubled family, with a father that was an alcoholic and addicted to gambling. His father always had bad luck and he never won money. Tom grew up in an environment where his father abused his mother. Tom wanted money to buy games, but his family was absolutely poor. When he tried to force his friend to give him some money, Tom’s friend refused and Tom lost his mind and killed his friend accidentally. After he got out of jail because Tom did good job and he was released early. Then he went back to school most students talked about and ignored him, but there was still a small group of students that felt pity for him and became friends with him. Tom gained some confidence from his friends, and then tried to become school president. He posted a video on YouTube about his introspection while he was in Juvenile Detention Center. He talked about his life before he went there, and how he wanted to be good. He hoped people can give him a chance. Then the school student started to accept him after they watched the video. By American Law, if the teenagers kill people, they will be sent to Juvenile Detention Center until they are 21. After that, keep going to jail or free to go which is depend on the teenagers’ behavior when they in the center.

Parents play a very important role when children grow. If children see their parents always argue, be intemperate, or violent. When the children grow up, and have a family on their own and the same situation could happen again. Domestic violence seems like a cycle, which can be repeated on each generation. My idea of doing the project is to prove that we can stop the cycle of violence.
