EXPERIMENT 1

TITLE:

AND and OR logic Circuits.

OBJECTIVES:

1. To understand basic function of the AND and OR logical gate.

2. To understand the control feature of the AND and OR logical gate.

 3. To observe characteristics of AND and OR logic circuits.

APPARATUS:

Multimedia Logic – Logic 1

THEORY:

Logic gate is the basic building block of any digital circuit. The AND and OR Gates is two of 6 logic gates that is used in digital electronics. The process of yielding an output for both gate are differ from each other.  The AND gate input will ANDing in order to produce an input, same with OR gate but will produce a different Boolean expression, symbol, logic symbol and the truth table. For AND, in order to get the output lamp to light, both switches must be close. The OR gate will light when either or both of the input switches are closed but not when both are open.

METHODOLOGY:

AND Gate

1. Figure 1 (a) is a basic AND Gate Logic symbol.

2. Firstly, input “A” and “B” was connected to the logical switch A and B. The output “Y” was then connected to LED “0” as figure 1 (b).

3. Next, both of logical switches A and B was changed from “0” to “1” and back to “0”, then the input and output situation were observed. The observation was recorded in Table 1 (a) truth table, where the Boolean expression for truth table was also stated.

OR Gate

2. The input “A” and “B” was connected to the logical switch A and B. Then, the output “Y” was connected to LED display “0” as figure 1 (d).

3. Next, both of logical switches A and B was changed from “0” to “1” and back to “0”, then the input and output situation were observed. The observation was recorded in Table 1 (b) truth table, where the Boolean expression for truth table was also stated.
