                                Ethical and legal dilemma

The main issue here is that David claims that his mother has made pleas to die and that she wishes not to eat anything in order to speed up her death. There seems to be an issue here because Mrs. Greene eats well if fed by someone. Moreover, she has an appetite of certain food types. It is in the hospital’s record that David’s visit to his mother has declined. Moreover, whenever he visits, he leaves his mother quite agitated and Mrs. Greene is more at peace when David is not around. Considering that he is the sole heir of his father’s property, this issue should be carefully considered by the committee before they made any rush decision (Killion & Dempski, 2009).

The alternative decision the committee might consider is continue giving food to the patient as usual and caring for her as usual. It is not against anyone to end or fasten the death of any individual. Moreover, why hasn’t Mrs. Greene uttered such comments of death wishes to anyone else in the hospital apart from David? She had other individuals in the hospital that she was close to and could have made such comments to them. This could lead to shady brook facing a legal battle with David considering that he is an attorney and can argue his way out. However, this alternative might be suitable for Mrs. Greene. Considering his mental condition, he could have uttered such words to David from his disturbance and could not have really meant them (Austin, Moline, & Williams, 2010).
