Growing up loving animals could possibly lead to becoming a veterinarian. Veterinary medicine is the branch of medicine that deals with the treatment of animals. Treating people's companions is one of the most profitable fields in the animal industry. The proper diagnosis, treatment, and care of the animal is all part of a veterinarians duties. Becoming a veterinarian is not an easy task to manage. It takes years of schooling, hard work, dedication, and many hours of countless studying.

The first step in becoming a certified veterinarian is to graduate from high school and pass the General Education Development exam. High School will be the main base of the veterinarian career. It is best to focus on as many science or agricultural courses such as biology, chemistry, zoology and marine biology. These courses will help prepare the student for the college courses and a will help the student better understand the career path of a veterinarian. If the student excels well in these courses, it will reassure that the student is compatible enough to engage in medicine courses. Once the student is sure medicine is the correct path, the student will graduate with bachelor's degree in science from any four-year institution.

The majorities of professional veterinarians receive their degrees in the fields of biological sciences, but recall that not all veterinary schools offer this major. Universities require some prerequisite subjects that a student must accomplish such as chemistry, physics, and biology. The student must review and check the offers of the veterinary schools that they are interested in before they apply. While applying to the different schools, the student may consider volunteering at animal shelters or participating in internships at an actual veterinary office and shadow the vet itself.
