Amendment 28: Freedom to be Cloned

With all the success that has came from animal cloning it makes one think is human cloning

good? Or is it bad?human cloning can help solve a lot of medical delemias such as infertility,

transplants and the prevention of passing on hereditary illnesses to offspring. On the other hand is

poses threats due to the risk of not knowing the outcome and issues with dignity, individually and

independence. I believe that human cloning should be farther explored and experiment because it could

solve medical problems.

On the day of February 24th 1997 a sheep was cloned named Dolly. Dolly was a female

domestic sheep, which became the first adult mammal to be cloned from an adult somatic cell, using

the process of nuclear transfer. She was cloned at the Roslin Institute near Edinburgh in Scotland by Ian

Witmut, Keith Campbell and colleagues at the Institute. Dolly lived until she was six years old then

pass away due to a progressive lung disease. The cell used as the donor for the cloning was taken from

a mammary gland, and the production of a healthy clone therefore proved that a cell taken from a

specific part of the body could recreate a whole individual. Dolly's name came from a suggestion by

the stockmen who helped with her birth, in honor of Dolly Parton, because it was a mammary cell that

was cloned. The birth of Dolly showed that there is potential in the world of cloning.(Pence 22)

be a new means to relieve the infertility some couples now experience. Second is the cloning of

humans such as a later twin would enable people to obtain needed organs or tissues for transplantation.

Human cloning would enable couples in which one party risks transmitting a serious hereditary disease,

a serious risk of disease, or an otherwise harmful condition to an offspring, to reproduce without doing

so. There are many ways that human cloning is beneficial these are
