There are five major world religions. They are Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism. Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Buddhism are monotheistic, which means they believe in one god, even though in Buddhism, Buddha (the founder of the religion) did not wish to be worshiped as a god. Hinduism, however is a polytheistic religion, meaning it believes in many gods. Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Buddhism all have a specific founder, such as Abraham and Moses for Judiasim, and Jesus Christ for Christianity, Mohammad for Islam, and Buddha for Buddhism, and yet again, Hinduism is the odd man out, because Hinduism does not have a specific founder. Hinduism is believed to be a blend of beliefs of Native Indians and the Aryan invaders.

Each of these religions have a different set of beliefs. In the Jewish religion, their main set of laws is the 10 Commandments, given to Moses on Mt. Sinai. The 10 Commandments are also a set of laws followed by the Christians, but they also believe in the Trinity of persons, and that Jesus is the Messiah and son of God. The main teachings of Islam are the 5 pillars, and also the Hajj, which is the pilgrimage of Mohammad to Mecca. The main teachings of Buddhism are the 4 Noble Truths, the 8 Fold Path, and Reincarnation. Hinduism also believes in the teachings of Reincarnation, it is said that the soul reincarnates as many times as it has to until it reaches heaven, Buddhism also strongly rejects the caste system. Hinduism also believes in Karma and Dharma, and it is believed that if you have good Karma and Dharma that you will move up in the caste system when you are reincarnated.

They each started being practiced at different times as well. Judaism was one of the first religions to be practiced. Judaism started at about 3000 BCE with Abrahams covenant, and 2000 BCE with the Exodus of Moses. Then the next religion to be practices was Hinduism at 1500 BCE. Then Buddhism at 500 BCE.
