The poem “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield explains through lyrics that life should not be planned. This is proven by book imagery, being open minded and believing in one self. The author introduces book imagery by stating “staring at the blank page before you” (Natasha 1). This quote explains that one does not need to write out a lifestyle. Basically that one’s life does not to be perfect nor always persistent. Imagery is being used because one can visually see the author staring at a blank page with absolutely nothing written on it. The second way the author shows that life should not be planned is by being open minded. That one should not plan a lifestyle, just to take it as it comes. The author states “live your life with arms wide open” (Natasha 1). This quote explains that one should be living their life with a blank mind, to keep one’s eyes open for the possibilities and that whatever life throws to one, take it. The author also shows how life should not be planned is by believing in oneself. Natasha states “I’m just beginning the pen’s in my hand/ending unplanned” (Natasha 1). This quote explains that the author is just beginning her life off, but that the ending will just come as she pleases not what anyone else thinks or says of how it will come. Natasha is also stating that one should believe in their self’s, or simply do what one wants to do. Therefore, the poem “Unwritten” is about how life should not be planned.
