Favorite Destination - Manhattan

While applying to graduate schools, I practiced writing essays and had a well informed friend read them over and correct any mistakes, reward any awkward statements, and in general help me with the organization. Here is an example of one essay.

"where is your favorite destination and why".

There are many reasons why Manhattan, often referred to simply as "the city", is my favorite destination. Growing up in Brooklyn, a borough just outside of NYC, my friends and I made weekly trips. The city presented an opportunity to visit a different world just a train ride away. Busy streets filled with people from all walks of life, novel fashion, and access to some of the best museums in the world. Now that I am older, for the same reasons, I am just as excited to visit Manhattan as I was then.

There is an unparalleled variety of people in Manhattan as a result of more tolerant and less judgmental attitudes. This characteristic makes NYC a desirable place to live for people of diverse backgrounds and for those who cannot live there, a favorite place to visit. In smaller towns and quieter cities, the population tends to be homogenous, less cosmopolitan, and less open-minded. I always look forward to going to the city because it presents an opportunity to meet different people, make friends with someone different, and learn something new.

Manhattan is the city where some of the most important events in the fashion industry take place. Some of the world's greatest designers are based in Manhattan, which is not surprising since the inhabitants of the city can be and are a great source of inspiration for a designer. The absence of judgmental attitudes allows for a unique style. I enjoy going to the city and picking up on the newest trends, re-emersion of past trends, and innovation of classic styles.
