Witch & Wizard was written by James Patterson and Gabrielle Charbonnet. The book was illustrated by Kyle Schyma. Witch & Wizard is the first book in the series. It is considered a children’s literature, fantasy, and fiction. It was published by Little Brown and Company, December 14, 2009. I read this book when I was in high school but I never got to finish the whole series until now and I loved it. Witch & Wizard from the title pulled me in, looking at the words witch and wizard got me to think is it like Harry Potter. The answer is no, Harry Potter and Witch & Wizard have only few things in common the main two are one it is full of witches and wizards, second they are trying to kill the evil villain.

The setting of the novel Witch & Wizard by James Patterson changes throughout the book, but the mood does not change with it. The book takes place in future-day America when a newly elected government, the New Order, takes over and takes away all books, art, music, and everyone who is thought to be a witch or wizard. Whit and Wisty travel through different parallels of Earth including Shadowland, “...a total shadow world. It looked like a whole other dimension, another reality.”(Witch & Wizard. Book, pg.36) All of the places traveled to in this book help create and eerie, suspenseful mood. If this book were in a different place the mood would be greatly affected. Any other place the story would have taken place in would not have had the same effect on the readers’ feelings. I believe this setting is unique to this novel and would change the whole story.

The story is about Wisteria Allgood better known as Wisty and her brother Whitford Allgood who goes by Whit, both of them are the main characters throughout the book as well as the series. Wisty is fifteen years old, who has magical abilities. Her main power is to burst into flames at random moments which gets her in trouble most of the time. Whit is eighteen who was a star athlete until he found out he was a wizard. He has the ability to conjure food, objects, and animals. He can also move things with his mind. Celia is Whit’s dead girlfriend who is living as a half-light. Byron Swain works for the government to keep the New Order in line. Wisty turned him into a weasel as Whit and her were trying to escape prison. He starts to have feelings for Wisty and now he would do anything for her. The One is someone you should stay away from if you are a witch or wizard. He is the face of the government,
