The Great Island Escape

People have memories that are sparked by many situations. Places often make people remember experiences from the past, such as the beach, school or even foreign countries. I would like a place of my own. A place where I can go to just sit back, relax and get away from all the hustle and bustle in the world. Come along with me as I take you to an unforgettable place where only the unimaginable becomes a reality.

I woke up with the smile of the sun on me and the abundance of the sand surrounding me. The sand beneath me felt like I was lying on hot glass paper. The feeling stung against my back like when you walk on hot coals. The clear water around the island glistened and was as blue as the sky. The immeasurable depths of the ocean were just a blink away. Tiny fish as small as rice grains swam to and fro the sandy beach of the island to the vast depths of the sea. The rough waves brushed against the rocks on the shore which were covered with a numerous amount of sea urchins and starfish.

The island had no cliff edges in it and it was almost a perfect circle. There was one large tower that stood in the middle of the island. It was old and gray as if it had been there for many years. There was a long yellow rope hanging from the side of the wall that pulled down into a huge staircase to get to the top. From the top of the tower you can look out on to the beautiful horizon. It was as if I was on top of a skyscraper in New York. You can see the tops of trees, a bird keeping her eggs warm in its nest to the smallest chameleon camouflaging itself on a tree branch. A view that was so unbelievable, a place that is worth spending a lifetime.

Another aspect of the island which caught my attention was the smell. The tantalizing scent of washed-up waves and sweet bananas all rolled into one. Many exotic fruits such as papaya, coconuts and star fruit covered the grounds. Every minute another fruit hitting the floor, some bursting and exposing their contents. A new sweet smell hitting my nose every time. A whiff of breeze brushes past my face every now and again and every time it feels as if I am taking in an abundance of pure oxygen-refreshing and in the moment.
