The main topic of this article is about how many people cheat and plagiarize their work, even the premier of Alberta. This article talks about how Ralph Klein was found to have plagiarized work from the internet to be used into his own work for a university course he was taking. He is said to have taken many paragraphs straight off the internet and used in his own work, without properly citing his work. The minister of education supported Klein of his actions. This issue took the notice of Don Heth, who is a professor himself. He was shocked to see that people were supporting Klein for his actions. Heth said that this is against the ways of how everyone was taught to write papers. He also examined the paper himself and said, “Klein’s paper would have difficulty determining what parts were written by Klein and what parts were written by other authors”. This problem is the cause of people not getting the right information and the original author not getting credit for their work.

Just any university, plagiarism at the University of Manitoba is a serious offence. If a student plagiarises for the first time and was intentional, they will most likely receive a failing grade for that course. If, a student continues to plagiarise they can receive more severe punishments such as suspensions or even an expulsion.

The University of Toronto also has similar consequences for plagiarism. If caught not citing properly or stealing information from the internet as your own for a paper, you could lose double the percent the paper was valued off your final grade. It could also lead to suspensions and sanctions. The university could also add in an annotation saying you have plagiarised before. This could lead to difficulty when trying to go to another university and will affect your academic career.
