Narrative Essay

Mandy is an all-star softball player and strives to be appreciated for her skill in the sport. She has been on 5 different award-winning teams. She was awarded 6 gold medals during high school and is now approaching her freshman year of college. Her brother who is a great baseball player is always stealing her light. She is envious of the attention that boys are getting over the girls. She believes that the girls are getting better scores and more metals so why aren’t they getting the same amount of attention? The baseball team constantly annoys Mandy because they get the better fields to practice on over the softball team.  Needless to say she is tired of men getting the upper hand over the women in her school.

She recently is applying to colleges and wanted to go to the best softball school. Her brother Jake is also looking at colleges even closer because he is a senior, but is truly passionate about his music. He plays the guitar for his band that he is apart of and is constantly skipping school to practice with his band. He is interested in colleges however Mandy is way more interested, especially in their baseball programs. Unfortunately she couldn’t find a college that gave as much praise to the softball team as they did to the baseball team. She was frustrated and wanted change so she knew that she wasn’t going to be applying anywhere until there was a change. However she has been battling this system of hierarchy since she can remember. She has to battle this from the inside to get anywhere and change this.

How could she change the system from the inside? She isn’t old enough to be an administrator or a teacher. She was a female, which was the original problem, no one would listen to her opinion. Then it came to her. She’s a female that is the problem! However if she was a guy she could easily persuade her peers to give more respect to the softball team! So she brainstormed for a while and came to the conclusion that guys are stupid and its not that hard to be a guy so she gathered her brothers clothes and sat down and had a serious talk with Jake.
