MANAGEMENT, LEADERSHIP AND NURSING LEADERSHIP

Based on the article and my understanding, managers administrate and maintain the systems and processes by which work gets done. Their work includes planning, organizing, staffing, leading, directing, and controlling the activities of the whole organization or team for the purpose of accomplishing a goal. Basically, managers are results-oriented problem-solvers with responsibility for day-to-day functions who focus on the immediate, shorter-term needs of the team. In contrast, leaders take the long-term view and have responsibility for where a team or organization is heading and what it achieves. They challenge the status quo, make change happen, and work to develop the capabilities of people to contribute to achieving their shared goals. Therefore, leadership is providing guidance, motivation and helping people engaging with a goal.

The healthcare needs nurse leaders because they develop nursing care; they are advocates for the nursing profession and have a positive effect on healthcare through leadership. Nursing leadership is affected by the changing time because of the new innovations, information, and technologies; and because of these changes, nurse leaders should continue to learn, grow, and be better advocates for the betterment of the healthcare system.
