The room was comfortable. It was warm, dry, and evenly lit with a smooth, ever inviting glow. An easy transition from the similar conditions my bed offered me, just minutes before. Everything was calm, but nothing was still. Even the air seemed to move in this place.With nothing less than sheer determination I heaved myself upon the heavy door, grudgingly working to flee this dreamy place. For what seemed like unending moments, I stood wrestling motionlessly with the door. While I felt as though I had mustered all the strength I could, every ounce of power that I drove against the door was answered with an equal force. It was during this time I questioned my desire leave such a place, and began to ponder whether the door was trying to send me a message by denying me passage to the place beyond. When finally the stalemate was broken the door yielded only a fraction of an inch. A warm moist rush of air came streaming in through that inch, like the hand of some great unknown reaching into take its prize. As the hand came into the room the weight of the door was lifted and now swung readily open exposing the darkness beyond. Slowly I left the comfortable room and stepped out into the unknown. As my hand left the door it snapped closed taking with it the last warm beam of light that emanated from that astonishing room. I abruptly found myself in a new place. Not just a new place, but a new existence. The orange soothing light was replaced with darkness and black. Seeing was impossible. The air was thick with moisture. It swam all around me, seemingly stuck in time. Like a parasite it attached itself to me. Every patch of bare skin became saturated with the stuff. Moving became uncomfortable. The parasite worked its way into my mouth, down my throat, and into my lungs. Breathing became difficult. The warmth was the only distantly familiar thing. Yet even that was taken from me by the merciless rasping of the wind, whose claws seemed to cut straight through my clothing
