A 2012 Presidential Candidate

Mitt Romney is not a newcomer to the national political stage. Romney founded the investment firm Bain Capital in 1994. This accomplishment inspired him to run for the Massachusetts Senate in the same year, but he was defeated by incumbent Ted Kennedy because he was 48 in job creation for governor of the United States. Romney became governor of Massachusetts in 2003, and then ran for the republican nomination in the 2008 election. He finished second in both the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary to candidate John McClain. In June 2011, Romney announced his bid for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination. By May 2012, he had become the Republican Party presumptive nominee. In August 2012, Romney announced U.S. Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin as his running mate. Later that month, Romney was officially named the Republican Party’s presidential nominee. All these events show how much experience Romney has in being a leader. This leading mentality was instilled within Romney at a young age.

Willard Mitt Romney was born on March 12, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, to Lenore Romney and George Romney. His mother, Lenore, gave up an acting career when she met and married his father, George. Mitt's father came from humble origins and never graduated from college. He apprenticed as a lath and plaster carpenter and sold aluminum paint before beginning a career that brought him to the head of American Motors and then the governorship of Michigan. George ran for the Republican Party’s Presidential nomination in 1968, but sadly lost to Richard Nixon. Raised in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Mitt Romney attended the prestigious Cranbrook Private School before receiving his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University in 1972. Romney attended Harvard Law and Harvard business school, where he received both a law degree and a master’s degree of Business Administration degree in 1975.

Romney married his wife, Ann, in 1969. Mitt and Ann have 5 sons and 18 grandchildren, who are the center of their lives. Mitt has had a Business background, Founding Bain Capital in 1984. The investment company helped launch or reshape hundreds of companies, including Staples and Dominos Pizza. He became a multimillionaire during his business years. In 1994 Romney was unsuccessful when he ran for U.S. Senate against Edward Kennedy. Mitt is not a career politician. He has spent most of his life in the private sector, giving him intimate knowledge of how our economy works. But he has also been an outstanding public servant. In one chapter
