What are the possible revenue models for YouTube?

YouTube is a well-known website, where millions of videos are uploaded every day. YouTube is now owned by Google.

There are six basic interest revenue models –

Advertising – For any interesting source, advertising is an easiest and widely-accepted model. They started without advertisement, but from June 2006, it entered into a marketing and advertising partnership with NBC. YouTube reached an agreement with CBS, Lions Gate Entertainment and MGM in November 2008 allowing the companies to post full –length television episodes and movies, which created competition with Hulu.

Subscription – YouTube also offers a subscription plan which offers high-quality content and access to certain part of websites. It would have better streaming quality and eliminate ads. Subscription would add revenue to the company. But the website is not based on subscription based model as it would result into user back-lash.

Affiliate – Affiliation is similar to advertising, but it is more focused on cost-per-action, which means YouTube only benefits if a user buys or pays for the given service displayed on the sides of the page. YouTube is a smart website which tracks and stores cookies, what we watch on it. It tracks and reflects the content of the video being viewed.

Content – YouTube doesn't offer video downloading, but there are some programs like savevid and keepvid allow YouTube content to be downloaded. YouTube can start selling videos with permission of owner for additional company's revenue.

Product Sales- It is hard for YouTube to sell tangible product in the market, but they can sell their branded hats, t-shirt, pens, mugs, picture frames and many more. This approach of business will be a low-risk and low-cost approach. Internet can be the mode of selling and YouTube can
