What are the aims and objectives of Organisational Behaviour?

Organisational Behaviour, commonly called OB, is an interdisciplinary field that is dedicated to the study of human behavior and performance in organisations.

OB takes a systematic study of employee behavior by determining behavior at three levels - individual, group, and organizational level. It seeks to achieve effectiveness and efficiency in the organization.

OB aims to evaluate, predict, improve, and control employee behaviour in organizations. With a systematic study of employee behaviour, managers can make reasonably accurate predictions of how employees behave in organisations. Such knowledge would provide managers with more insights into managerial activities such as designing jobs, recruiting and training employees.

There are five key predictions that you will be introduced to in this Study Unit that form key dependent variables of Organisational Behaviour.

Personality is a unique set of traits and characteristics (behaviour, thoughts and emotions) of an individual and each of us has a different set of personality. A person set of traits and characteristics tends to be stable over time (Management consulting courses, undated). Someone who shows he/she is confident and positive, probability of he/she showing these traits again in the future are high (Prenhall, undated)

Determinates of personality are heredity, culture and family background. Genetics factors determines our physical stature, temperament and sex, all this characteristics are trace to heredity. Personal values tend to be nurtured by our own culture thus you see people from different cultures have different personality/values. The status in a person's family can also shape their personality to a certain extend. Elder child tend to be more giving in and understanding as their younger sibling may not be as mature in
