1) Organisational change is the movement of an organization away from its present state and toward some desired future state to increase its effectiveness. It is any alteration in people, structure or technology. Changes in Sony include change in the structure, change decision making and change in specific technologies. Changing in structure includes any alteration in authority relationships, coordination mechanisms, degree of centralization, job design, or similar organization structure variables.

Changing technology includes alterations in how work is carried out in terms of the way work is done and how it is done, and Change in people refers to changes in workers expectations, perceptions, behaviour or attitudes towards their jobs.

In 2005, Sony changed the head of the company, Howard Stringer who became the first non-Japanese head of the company in its history and one of the few to ever lead any major Japanese company case. This change in the CEO of Sony may bring about both positive and negative responses in the company. The CEO being the first non-Japanese as Stringer was born in Wales (UK) in 1942 but moved to the United States in 1965 has brought about a little cultural diversity this may cause cultural differences, which may possibly lead to conflict in Sony’s culture. Diversity in Sony involves a number of elements. Differences in nationality, language, religion, social status and age can lead a benefit or loss in Sony’s company. Dealing with diversity effectively is vital in leveraging the advantages and reducing the disadvantages of diversity in the workplace. On the other Hand diverse cultural backgrounds bring unique perceptions and experiences to the table in groups and work teams. Combining diverse skills and knowledge of distinctive cultures together can benefit Sony by enhancing teams’ knowledge responsiveness and productivity to changing conditions.
