SIMPLE RULES FOR SUCCESSFUL LEADERS AND MANAGERS

I still remember the first time I had this class. I could only understand 20% of what the professor was depicting that could also be compared to a mixture of practical guidance and “pun jokes”. Even so, I chose to take the challenge, especially when the other friend determined to avoid this class for fear that her GPA might be lowered. And the result turned out to be unexpected and meaningful. Because I not only cultivated a habit of reading, but also found more potential and confidence in the future blueprint that maybe I will take the plunge and start my own interpretation business one day.

To clarify my essay, I would like to convey “Simple Rules for Successful Leaders and Managers” in the respects of character, virtue, insight, and specific strategies which resolve corresponding problems. Inspirations come from my mom’s business working experiences, my own stories, the class you present and five books which are listed in the references.

Hope you enjoy the rules and thank you for your contribution to the whole class.

SIMPLE RULES FOR SUCCESSFUL LEADERS:

Rule L-1: BE NICE. (AT LEAST PRETEND TO BE)

The word “nice” incorporates good temper and affability. For instance, The Prestigious leader Abraham Lincoln is famous for his encouraging smile, humorous remarks, and kind words. Friendly images help CEOs build up casual contacts with subordinates, help politicians win more votes in the public. However, nobody can be perfect for all time. We leaders need to release pressure and overcome impatience in a silent way alone for the reason that once your temper got out of control, all of those friendly moments would be eradicated in employee’s minds. For instance, my mother who has a hot temper always complains that her employees avoid her, while her cow-worker, my uncle socials well in the company, for he had never lost his temper in the public and equipped himself with a smiling mask. He did complain about the company at home, but he chose not to expose all of the cards at public. To some extent, leaders have to be nice performers.

Rule L-2: SEEK LATEST AND COMPLETE DATA BEFORE MAKIGN A DECISION.

In the book “Lincoln on Leadership”, Lincoln was always the one who assembled various sources of news from the war field. Before making a decision, one have to gather and understand the facts. Although a leader creates a vision for the team, without sufficient researches from different resources, a good vision will not pop up. Last summer, my mother invested a local hotel located in a mountain. She simply made this decision based on my uncle’s rough introduction to the potential tourism industry in the mountain. Without a deep research in the data, they encountered a series of problems. For instance, the tourism industry faded due to the revolution of stop using public funds in recreational activities in Chinese communist party. As a leader in a family, one had to grab complete information before making a decision, let alone a CEO in a corporation.
