Akbank:

Akbank is one of the largest banks in Turkey. Akbank provides private, retail, commercial, foreign exchange, and securities transaction services. Akbank has nearly 1,000 branch offices throughout Turkey. Akbank also manages 23 regional offices, 4,000 ATMs, and 350,000 POS terminals (Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. [Samsung], 2015a).

Business issue. Akbank wanted to expand their mobile banking capabilities for branch and senior managers. Solution. Akbank’s solution to this issue was to outfit bank managers with Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 smartphones (See Figure 1). The smartphones allowed bank managers to access internal Enterprise Resource Planning applications while on the go. These smartphones provided a brilliant 5.7 inch display with Multi-Window and S-Pen capability. Galaxy Note 3 smartphones had built-in hardware-level security and integrated with Airwatch Mobile Device Management to remotely configure and apply security settings for all smartphones (Samsung, 2015a).

Results. With Samsung Galaxy Note 3 smartphones, Akbank was able to provide the following improved mobile capabilities without compromising data security: (a) superior business experience; (b) more efficient, high quality customer service; and (c) compliance with industry regulations. Akbank also reaped a significant return on their mobile investment (Samsung, 2015a).
